From school shootings to armed robbery, gun violence in urban areas has been deemed as acceptable within the country. While perpetrators can come from all walks of life, no matter their creed, color, religion, or socioeconomic status, it is the individuals close to home who have perpetuated the continuous rising death toll in black and brown communities of the DMV.
The film, Stray, delves into the day-to-day operations of community organizers/activists as they work with politicians who are introducing new laws/restrictions/curfews and raising the police budget to fight against gun violence. Juxtaposing the same fight from different fronts, Stray highlights how youth are in the middle trying to thrive but often surviving by running away and never coming back to their neighborhoods.
